"Midnight Frost" by Jennifer Estep (Mythos Academy #5)

"Here we go again …

Just when it seems life at Mythos Academy can’t get any more dangerous, the Reapers of Chaos manage to prove me wrong. It was just a typical night at the Library of Antiquities — until a Reaper tried to poison me. The good news is I’m still alive and kicking. The bad news is the Reaper poisoned someone else instead.

As Nike’s Champion, everyone expects me to lead the charge against the Reapers, even though I’m still hurting over what happened with Spartan warrior Logan Quinn. I’ve got to get my hands on the antidote fast — otherwise, an innocent person will die. But the only known cure is hidden in some creepy ruins — and the Reapers are sure to be waiting for me there …"

For all Mythos Academy readers, you probably know that since book one the author has done nothing but deliver. In this installment - that's exactly the case, yet again.

Gwen is reeling from everything - the weight of the Chaos War once again looming over everybody, being a descendant from a long line of women who have all been Nike's Champions, and now the one person she never imagined would leave her, at the time she needed him most, up and left. (With his own reasons, though)

Our protagonist, Gwen Frost, is now more determined than she has ever been. Determined to make the Reapers pay for all the pain they've caused, for all the people they've taken away from her. When a poison attempt against her goes wrong, and ends up putting a person she cares about in critical condition, she takes it upon herself to find the cure. She won't let another person die because of her.

Equipped with nothing but her talking sword, Vic, and her posse of kickass friends, they venture out in search for the cure - but here's the problem, the Eir Ruins are located in the snowy mountains of Denver and are known for leaving people a little... loopy, once they return. Not to mention, Reapers are out for blood and most likely will be waiting for them at the ruins once they arrive.

All the characters have developed tremendously from when I first started reading the series, and have developed into a close knit family. Old enemies, new enemies, and new friends will be made. I highly recommend this book for anybody who has an interest in Greek Mythology, snarky characters, and loads of laughter.

Although, I must give this book a 4.5 star rating, as it wasn't as action packed as the rest, and there weren't that many revelations made... but I guess that's what the sixth book is for!

"Spartan Frost" by Jennifer Estep (Mythos Academy #4.5)

"I'm Logan Quinn, the deadliest Spartan warrior at Mythos Academy. At least I was--until the day I almost killed Gwen Frost.

Professor Metis and Nickamedes say that I'm fine, that Loki and the Reapers don't have a hold on me anymore, but I can't risk it. I can't risk hurting Gwen again. So I'm leaving Mythos and going somewhere far, far away.

I know Gwen wonders what's happening to me, whether I'm safe. I can't tell her, but this is my story. . ."

Short, sweet and punch-packing!

Spartan Frost is a novella that essentially should be read after Crimson Frost, because well.. if you decide to read it at any other point -
a) you would have no idea what's going on
b) it'll spoil the entire series for you

As usual, I get ridiculously engrossed in all Jennifer Estep's Mythos Academy books, and this was one was no different. I had to slow my reading pace, hoping the book would last a little longer than usual, but alas... It did not.

In this addition to the Mythos Academy series, we get a sneak peek into the Reaper-action that happens outside the walls of the academy. And to make it even more interesting, we see it all through the eyes of the mysterious Logan Quinn. Yes ladies, Logan is definitely another swoon-worthy character to add to your list of fictional hotties!

Ever since I picked up the first book, I instantaneously fell in love with the way the author makes all her words flow ever-so-wonderfully. I'm glad that "flow" never dwindles away like so many other books do.

I won't give anything away, 'cause this book is a definite must read for all Mythos Academy lovers out there! And for all you readers who have not picked up a book from this series, you're definitely missing out! This book definitely had me wanting more! And what's with that ending!!? People and their cliffhangers.

FIVE STARS.
